Horii Shichimeien is a historic tea producer established in the Meiji era in Uji, Kyoto. Their tea garden — Okunoyama — has been cultivated for over 600 years since the Muromachi period, making them one of the few remaining producers who grow, process, and sell their own tea entirely from scratch. With roots tracing back to the 16th century, Horii Shichimeien is dedicated to preserving the genuine, multilayered flavors of authentic Uji tea.
Hatsu Mukashi is a smooth, aromatic ceremonial usucha matcha from Horii Shichimeien — well-rounded and toasty, with a pleasant balance between umami and sweetness.
Aroma: Toasty and subtly sweet
Taste: Mild umami with a gentle bitterness and a lingering sweet finish
🍵 Recommended for: Usucha (thin tea), matcha latte
✨ Best for: Those who enjoy a smooth, approachable ceremonial matcha with toasty warmth
📦 Origin: Uji, Kyoto, Japan
