Suikaen Chasen

Suikaen (翠華園), led by master craftsman Tanimura Yasuburo in Takayama, Nara, has been crafting bamboo whisks for over 500 years, with roots tracing back to the era of Tea Master Sen no Rikyu. From bamboo cultivation and natural drying to meticulous handcrafting, they preserve this deep tradition while thoughtfully adapting it for the modern tea practice.

Caring for Your Chasen:

Clean Immediately After Use: Whisk the chasen in a bowl of water or rinse it under running water to remove any matcha residue. Use your fingers or a cloth to gently clean the tines. Avoid using soap, as it can damage the bamboo.

Drying: Stand the whisk upright and allow it to air dry completely to maintain its shape and prevent mold growth.
