Yamadaen Yamadaen

Yamadaen was founded in 1909 by my predecessor, Yamada Inosuke, as a tea wholesaler and Uji tea retailer on the main approach to Byodo-in Temple in Uji, Kyoto. This area has a deep connection to tea history, going back to 1191 when the monk Myoe planted tea seeds brought from China by Zen Master Eisai. Over time, Uji developed into Japan’s leading tea-producing region, home to the famed Seven Gardens of Uji.

For over a century, they've continued selling tea in this historic birthplace of Uji tea. They take pride in offering only high-quality tea—matcha, gyokuro, sencha, and karigane.
