Horii Shichimeien is a historic tea producer established in the Meiji era in Uji, Kyoto. Their tea garden — Okunoyama — has been cultivated for over 600 years since the Muromachi period, making them one of the few remaining producers who grow, process, and sell their own tea entirely from scratch. With roots tracing back to the 16th century, Horii Shichimeien is dedicated to preserving the genuine, multilayered flavors of authentic Uji tea.

Gyokuro: The Art of Shaded Cultivation
Grown under shade, gyokuro develops a distinctive aroma prized by tea connoisseurs — often called its "shaded fragrance." This careful cultivation process also deepens the tea's umami, resulting in a rich, authentic flavor unlike any other green tea.
To bring out its best character, brew gyokuro with water around 50-60°C (122°F). For an even smoother, sweeter cup, try cold brewing.
